Aladdin review

Once again, Disney brings to life a movie made to turn heads and inspire awe in its viewers. Disney’s live-action remake of the classic film Aladdin, starring actors Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Will Smith, Nasim Pedrad, Marwan Kenzari and Navid Negahban, hit screens on May 24, telling the classic tale of a street-rat, a princess and their tango with adventure.

Some aspects of the film were the same as the original, such as the dynamic duo of Aladdin and his pet monkey, Abu, the comedic Genie, the jealous vizar Jafar, the fierce tiger Raja and, of course, the memorable songs. In addition to the original aspects of the film, the new live-action version has its own quirks incorporated into the storyline. These, combined with the original elements, make for a great movie that brings back to life the child in us all.

In this version of the classic tale, Princess Jasmine has a larger role in the story, being more than the secondary-character that she was in the original. In the original, Jasmine really only served as the pretty princess love interest. Instead, in the live-action, she has a bold personality and the need to speak up. This new characterization of Jasmine leads to a new song to go into the movie’s soundtrack: “Speechless”. This song showcases Jasmine’s independent nature and her need to speak up and stand out.

Another new element put into this story is the addition of the character Daila, Jasmine’s handmaiden and best friend. The addition of this character brings more comedy to the film and a love interest for none other than the Genie himself.

The effort put into this film was especially enjoyable. You could tell by the amount of detail put into this film that it was well thought out and well planned. This paid off in the end and the film ended up with a domestic total of $185,537,718 as of June 2, according to Box Office Mojo.

Overall, this film was put together well, from the songs and the comedy, to the adaptation and the original storyline. It was a joy to watch and brought back many memories of the old film. The new twists incorporated only brought more life to the already vivacious tale.

Throughout the film, the songs were my favorite. Each were bursting with color and sound and just when I thought they couldn’t get any better, they did. I also enjoyed the comedy brought into the film. The entire theater that I was in seemed to share the same opinion.

The live-action remake of the classic film was overall really well put together and bursting with color and comedy. I would definitely recommend this film to any who are wishing to see it.
